Credit Freeze

You can now take advantage of free credit freezes

A new federal law lets you place free credit freezes and extended fraud alerts on your credit report. What does that mean to you?

• Free credit freezes make it harder for identity thieves to open accounts in your name.
• You can freeze credit files for children who are under 16. And if you are someone's guardian, conservator or have a valid power of attorney, you can get a free freeze for that person, too.
• Year-long fraud alerts require businesses to check with you before opening an account.
